Lander Swamp is approximately 4.54 hectares in size and is recognised as part of the Bennett Brook suite of wetlands.

With the wetland being seasonally inundated with surface water typically present between June and February each year, Lander Swamp provides an important habitat amongst the steadily urbanised surroundings for local fauna and birds.

The swamp is mapped as Conservation Category Wetland with the north-eastern area defined as Resource Enhancement Wetland.

The outer areas of the swamp, also known as the buffer, have been progressively revegetated and rehabilitated as an off set to surrounding urban development. The revegetation strategy has aimed to establish native vegetation in and around Lander Swamp and its buffer, creating links between fragmented remnants of native vegetation.
