Ghost Walks

Ghostly encounters

Locals say that our hills are home to the spirits of Mason and Bird’s timber mill workers, who built a thriving community in Orange Grove in the 1860s.

Find out for yourself when you experience the City's popular annual Ghost Walks.

Come along and enjoy a fully guided 5.5km moonlit walk along a well-marked bush track from the historic Victoria Dam to the Bickley Reservoir in the Orange Grove Hills. Along the way, you'll explore the history of the Mason and Bird Timber Mill Company and the bustling community that thrived in the area over 150 years ago.

Meet the friendly ghost performers who tell colourful tales of the many characters that lived and worked in the district at the time. Beware of the convicts you encounter lingering near the railway bridge who provided much of the hard labour during construction. Experience the local environment in a new way with this exciting family entertainment as you enjoy the magnificent bush scenery and views of the Perth City lights.

Ghost Walks season

The 2020 Ghost Walk season has now closed and will reopen in 2021.

Ghost Walks are held between February and April, with events held on Friday evenings closest to the full moon.

Each tour night, four groups of approximately 25 walkers enjoy the entertainment. Walks are spaced at 15 minute intervals with the first group departing at 7pm. Each walk takes approximately three hours, commencing with a comfortable 20 minute bus ride from Hardinge Road picnic area to the starting point at Victoria Dam car park.

On return from this dynamic bush walk you can enjoy a delicious supper, chat with the volunteers who have returned from the track, earn your Ticket of Leave and pick up some brochures and information about local history and coming events.
