On 30 January 2024 it was announced that the WA Government plans to amend the Residential Design Codes (R-Codes) to allow for exemptions of Development Approval for Ancillary Dwellings.

To qualify for the exemption, the proposal must meet the following:

In addition, the minimum lot size requirement has been removed and the car parking requirement may be varied depending on density and location.

The amended State Planning Policy 7.3 will be released in mid-March 2024 and will become operational by mid-April 2024.
