The Djarlgarra (Canning River) foreshore in Homestead Park was in a highly degraded state before significant weed control and revegetation works were started in 2006 by the City and the Armadale Gosnells Landcare Group.

The river foreshore was originally highly weed infested with Typha and Blackberry. Five years later, more than 60,000 native trees, shrubs and sedges have been planted at the project site. All works have been coordinated by the City and the Armadale Gosnells Landcare Group, and a lot of hard work by many community volunteers.

The revegetation project aims to increase biodiversity, widen the foreshore wildlife corridor, stabilise river banks, improve water quality in the river and reduce the number of weed species present.
