Cultural diversity

The City is home to a richly diverse community with 43% of City residents born overseas (ABS, 2016), and 157 languages are spoken (ABS, 2016). 

We are proud of this diversity and seek to celebrate our cultural vibrancy through an array of multicultural events and community development projects.

Multicultural Reference Cards

The City’s new Multicultural Reference Cards provide contact details for local community services, City programs and services as well as emergency numbers in English and 6 other languages (simplified ChinesePunjabiFarsiIndonesianArabic and Tagalog).

Browsealoud

The City’s new website translation service, called Browsealoud, is a free tool providing written translation in 78 different languages and spoken translation in 35 languages.  Click on the orange Browsealoud launchpad icon that appears on the bottom right of your screen to launch the support toolbar. 

 

Harmony Week

Harmony Week runs in March and encourages everyone to experience, explore and appreciate our communities’ wealth of cultural, religious, linguistic and ethnic diversity.
