In honour of Love to Read Local Week (2nd-9th of June), City of Gosnells Library Services invites you to celebrate your favourite Western Australian writers!

Join us for a free author talk with Perth local and award-winning fiction writer Kate McCaffrey. She has written five award-winning novels in the Young Adult genre, all published by Fremantle Press:

  • "Destroying Avalon" (2006)
  • "In Ecstasy" (2008)
  • "Beautiful Monster" (2010)
  • "Crashing Down" (2014)
  • "Saving Jazz" (2016)

Kate's stories focus on young Australian teenage girls, exploring how their worlds change as they navigate family, friendships, socialising, and school. Her protagonists deal with (and more importantly, overcome) a wide range of issues affecting Australian teens, including cyberbulling, drug abuse, peer pressure, depression, sexual assault, pregnancy, eating disorders, and grief.

Her work has been translated into many languages and published internationally, garnering her awards that include the Western Australian Premier's Book Award for Young Adults, the WAYBRA Award for older readers, and the White Raven label. She has also won the Australian Family Therapists Children's Literature Award no less than three times.

Kate's first adult fiction book "Double Lives" was published by Echo in 2022.

The author talk event will take place at the Amherst Village Library, in the Meeting Room.
