Construction is set to start on upgrades to local parks in Thornlie and Southern River, providing local families with new spaces to play and socialise.

Following consultation with nearby residents, Kelton Park in Thornlie will receive a nature-themed facelift, including a timber tower and slide, swings, rocker, paths and seating. Rocks and logs for nature play will complete the upgrade.

Nile Park in Southern River will also have a new playground installed, including slides, a birds-nest swing, echidna rocker, shade sails, paths, seating and landscaping.

City of Gosnells Mayor Terresa Lynes said it was always exciting to see playgrounds being installed and upgraded.

“Local parks are highly valued by our community, and for good reason,” she said.

“Parks provide our residents with space to be outdoors in the fresh air, to exercise and play, and spend time with family, friends and neighbours.”

Community members are asked to take care while near the construction sites, and be mindful of vehicles and workers on site.

Installation of the Nile Park playground is funded by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
