The City of Gosnells is encouraging residents to light up the streets this Christmas, by joining in the annual Safe City Christmas Lights Competition.
Mayor Terresa Lynes said the popular competition, presented by Beyond Bank, was a lot of fun and always brought neighbours together.
“Entries are now open, so start decorating your home and register online by Sunday 3 December to be in with a chance to win hundreds of dollars,” she said.
“The Safe City Christmas Lights Competition is a fantastic way to share the Christmas spirit in our community. It also encourages residents to get to know each other and walk around their neighbourhoods, which are two of the best ways to improve community safety.”
Entrants will be in the running to win great cash prizes:
- Best Decorated House – $500
- Best Decorated Street – $1,000
- Three Best Decorated House runners up – $100 each
- Best First Time Entry – $200
- Random Prize Draw – $50
Judging will take place on Tuesday 5 December and Wednesday 6 December, so participants should leave their lights on until 11pm those nights. Winners will be announced at the City’s Jingle All the Way festive event at the Civic Centre Gardens on Saturday 9 December and all finalists are encouraged to attend.
“Last year, some competition entrants raised money for their favourite charities through their Christmas light displays, so it is a good idea to keep a few coins in your pocket when you visit,” Mayor Lynes said.
“We also want to encourage everyone to be mindful of neighbours when viewing the lights, be considerate when parking cars, drive safely and watch carefully for pedestrians.”
