The City of Gosnells Civic Centre will glow green and gold in support of Australia’s record-breaking Matildas, who play England in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Semi Final on Wednesday.

“The City of Gosnells is so proud of the amazing achievements of the Matildas and this is our way of showing our support for their history-making efforts,” Mayor Terresa Lynes said.

“We can’t wait for the week ahead and wish the team the very best of luck.”

The week of football fever will culminate in a Festival of Football at the Lissiman Street Activation Hub on Sunday 20 August, headlined by the live broadcast of the Women’s World Cup Final as well as family-favourite movie Bend It Like Beckham.

“Our fingers are crossed for an Australian win in the Semi Final but regardless of who’s playing in the Final, our Festival of Football will be a wonderful family-friendly celebration,” Mayor Lynes said.

“We encourage everyone young and old to get behind our national team – and to attend our Festival of Football this Sunday.”

Mayor Lynes said the City strongly supports grass roots local sport, from programs to encourage people of all ages to stay fit and active and financial support for local sportspeople through our Competition Sponsorship program, to provision of excellent grounds and facilities right across the City’s suburbs.

“The Gosnells Festival of Football is a great way for our local community to come together for the first event at the new Lissiman Street Activation Hub while celebrating sporting excellence and the FIFA Women’s World Cup Final,” she said.
