City’s sustainability efforts shine bright

The City of Gosnells is cutting its energy bills by installing solar power and LED lighting at more City facilities in 2023/24.

Mayor Terresa Lynes said the $665,000 investment will reduce electricity consumption, making the facilities more affordable to run in the long term and improving the City’s sustainability.

“It makes environmental and economic sense to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and make the City’s facilities greener, cleaner and more efficient,” she said.

“What’s more, some of the facilities where photovoltaic panels and LED lighting will be installed are used by community groups, so this project will in turn reduce their costs.”

Photovoltaic panels will be installed at five sites, including the Emergency Operations Centre, Homestead Park Centre, The Agonis, Bev Bridson Pavilion and Tom Bateman Pavilion.

Traditional lighting will also be replaced with LED at Homestead Park Centre, The Agonis, Bev Bridson Pavilion, and Tom Bateman Pavilion, as well as at Thornlie Sportsman’s Club, Addie Mills Centre, Thornlie Library and Amherst Village Community Centre.

The installation is funded by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts through a Local Roads and Community Infrastructure grant.
