Local resident Jennifer Keys was named the Citizen of the Year at the City of Gosnells Australia Day Big Breakfast last weekend.

Mrs Keys’ passion for promoting healthy lifestyles and mental health has included extensive involvement in the Huntingdale Junior Football Club, Auskick, Hammers Softball Club junior teams and as co-founder of the Hammers Running Group.

Other award recipients included:

  • Senior Citizen of the Year Award – Jeanette Perkins. Mrs Perkins has volunteered at the City’s Addie Mills Centre for the past five years, assisting local seniors with technology and activities.
  • Youth Citizen of the Year Award – Syeda Maisara Muzaffar. Ms Muzaffar’s voluntary contribution to not-for-profit organisation Ubuntu Australia has helped to provide essential services for people in need.
  • Active Citizenship Award – Gosnells Chinese Association Inc. The Association runs a wide range of programs and events, as well as providing a hub for weekly social interaction and engagement.

Mayor Terresa Lynes said the awards gave the City a chance to publicly acknowledge the tireless work and dedication of some of its outstanding residents and workers.

“Our Community Citizen of the Year Awards recipients and nominees have all made valuable contributions to our local community,” she said.

“These awards are designed to recognise people who show leadership, bring about positive changes and act as inspiring role models for others.

“Congratulations to all our Community Citizen of the Year Award winners, who help make Gosnells a great place to live."

The awards were presented at the City’s annual Australia Day Big Breakfast event at Centennial Pioneer Park in Gosnells. Community members enjoyed breakfast, a range of entertainment, and a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony, as well as the awards ceremony.
