The City of Gosnells Community Art Exhibition and Awards


The City of Gosnells Community Art Exhibition and Awards is an annual event that gives both emerging and professional artists the opportunity to showcase their work while celebrating creativity and culture in the heart of the community. 

The exhibition and awards play a vital role in fostering connection, vibrancy and creativity within the City of Gosnells.

The $10,000 prize pool includes a $5,000 Overall Acquisitive Award. Visitors to the exhibition can vote for the People's Choice Award. 

Many artworks will be available for sale during the exhibition, providing a fantastic opportunity to support local artists and their creations.

Artists may enter their artwork via our paper application form or online application. For more information, please see the FAQ below.

City of Gosnells Community Art Exhibition and Awards

Conditions of Entry

 

Artwork Submission

  1. Maximum number of artwork entries per artist: 
    1. City of Gosnells resident or ratepayer – two pieces. 
    2. Non-resident or ratepayer – one piece. 
  2. All artworks must be the original work of the artist and must have been completed in the previous 12 months from the date of entries closing (Monday 16 March 2026). 
  3. All artworks must not exceed W1.2m x H1.2m (including frame). Any 2D (two-dimensional) must not weigh more than 10kg and 20kg for 3D (three-dimensional) artwork. 
  4. Multi panel works will be classed as one (1) entry with a combined size of W2.4m x H1.2m.

 

Entry form

  1. Entry forms must be received by 4pm on Monday 16 March 2026. Changes to entry forms and late submissions will not be accepted after this date. 
  2. Artists must submit a statement about their work (maximum 150 words).
  3. Artists must provide a high-resolution digital image of their completed artwork (minimum 300 DPI or 1MB). Please save the digital image with artist’s last name, first name and title of artwork as a jpeg file. Example: (Blog_Joe_BirdsinFlight.jpeg) And then upload this image on the entry form provided on the City of Gosnells website.
  4. Entry forms must be accompanied by the entry fees during submission. One entry fee per artwork submission.
  5. Entry fees are non-refundable (unless the city is unable to display the entry). 

Artwork Drop off

  1. All artworks must be suitably presented for display. 2D artworks must have properly affixed cord or wire, preferably with ‘D’ rings to hold the artwork. ’D’ rings to be securely fitted 7- 10 cm or 1/3 height of work from the top corners. If required, adjustments may be made to the affixed ‘D’ rings on the frame by staff.
  2. Artwork must be clearly labelled with the title, category, artist name, and the sales price (including the 20% commission and GST if applicable), either with marker on the back of the work or on a card securely fixed to the work.
  3. Please ensure artwork is dry before dropping it off.
  4. Digital artworks must be presented with a high quality printout and framed as defined above. Video or audio cannot be accommodated.

     

Categories  

  1. The winning entry for the Overall Award (Acquisitive) category becomes the property of the City of Gosnells even if the artwork is indicated as not for sale. If the sales price is more than the prize money, the artist must accept the latter. The artist will only receive the acquisitive prize money, and not additionally the sales price. 
  2. All entries will be eligible for the Overall Award (Acquisitive) and People’s Choice Award. 
  3. The People’s Choice Award winner agrees to a photo with the sponsor, should there be any, at a mutually agreed time.
  4. All artwork accepted for the exhibition will be judged. The judges’ decision is final. No correspondence or justification will be entered into. 
  5. Artists who live and/or are ratepayers in the City of Gosnells will automatically be entered into the Local Artist Award. 
  6. The Youth Award category is open to any person aged 12 – 17 years inclusive at date of entries closing (16 March 2026). 
  7. Artwork with a City of Gosnells theme is eligible for The City in Focus Award (must be nominated on the entry form).
  8. To enter the Aboriginal Artist Award, the artist must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.

     

Sales  

  1. Artwork sales payments must be made by the buyer to the City of Gosnells directly. The City will take 20% commission from the sales price of all artworks. Under no circumstances are artists to accept payment from buyers. 
  2. If the artist has an ABN and is registered for GST, GST must be included in the sales price. 
  3. If an artist sells their work and has an ABN, they must provide the City with a tax invoice prior to receiving payment. If the artist does not have an ABN and deems themselves to be a ‘hobbyist’, they must provide a completed ATO Statement by Supplier form prior to payment. 
  4. Payment may take up 4-6 weeks to arrive in the artist designated bank account from the date the Art team submits the payment request.
     

Copyright, insurance, and legalities  

  1. At this stage, The City of Gosnells Community Art Exhibition and Awards is not accepting AI generated artworks. If City of Gosnells suspects an artwork is AI generated artworks, evidence may be requested from the artists.  
  2. It is the responsibility of the artist to provide insurance and transportation for their artwork. The City will exercise all due care but will not be responsible for any loss, damage or theft of any artwork due to its exhibition in a public space.
  3. The artist is responsible for satisfying any copyright requirements concerning their artwork.
  4. All work must be the original work of the submitting artist. You may be requested to provide a release form with permission if your work features a person, or a place of cultural significance.
  5. Due to limited exhibition space, the City reserves the right not to display all entries. Artists whose artwork is not displayed will be notified and entry fees will be refunded.
  6. The City is not responsible or liable for any errors or omissions in the content of this Community Art Exhibition and Awards, including in the display of artwork pricing and the sales processes. 
  7. City of Gosnells staff, Councillors and other personnel directly associated with the exhibition are permitted to participate and offer their artwork for sale, but will not be eligible for any prize. 
  8. After a period of one (1) month from the collection date, uncollected artwork might be discarded unless an extension of the collection period is granted by mutual written agreement of both parties.

 

MEDIA RELEASE

  1. Entrants agree to allow visual recordings and photography of their submitted artwork for publicity and promotional purposes. The artist agrees to allow any work to be reproduced in part or whole by print or electronic media for non-commercial purposes including, but not limited to, promotion, review and educational purposes, collection management and future promotion of the Community Art Exhibition and Awards. 
  2. The City will attribute the artist wherever practical. 
  3. By entering artwork, the artist agrees to allow the City to publish the artist’s name, artwork, artwork title, artist photograph and artist statement (if provided) in connection with their entry. 
  4. Failure to meet any of the Conditions of Entry may exclude artists from the City’s Community Art Exhibition and Awards.

How do I enter?

To enter your artwork, please register via our paper form or online application.

Paper entry forms can be collected from the City of Gosnells Civic Centre reception or downloaded online. Please submit your completed form and payment at the City's Civic Centre reception.

How many artworks can I enter?

The maximum number of artwork entries per artist is as follows:

  • City of Gosnells resident or ratepayer: two pieces
  • Non-resident or ratepayer: one piece

Does the artwork need to be recently created?

All artworks must be original works created by the artist and must have been completed within the last 12 months from the entries' closing date.

Can I enter an artwork that has been exhibited before at another art exhibition?

Yes, you can enter an artwork that has been exhibited before in another art exhibition. Please note, all artworks must have been created within the last 12 months from the entries' closing date to be accepted.

Can I enter an artwork that has won an award in another art exhibition?

If the artwork has won an award in another exhibition, you can still enter it. Please note, all artworks must have been created within the last 12 months from the entries' closing date to be accepted.

What is the maximum dimension of the artwork?

All artworks must not exceed 1.2m x 1.2m (including frame) besides multi-panels 2.4m x 1.2m. 

2D artworks must not weigh more than 10kg, and 3D artworks must not weigh more than 20kg.

Multi panel works will be classed as one (1) entry with a combined size of W2.4m x H1.2m. 

How do I price my artwork?

Start by exploring different pricing strategies online to find a formula that works for you. Once you've chosen one, calculate your price, and remember to add a 20% commission and GST (only if you're registered for GST) to cover all costs. 

When can I expect payment if my artwork is sold?

Payment for sold artwork will begin after the Community Art Exhibition closes. A member of the Art team will contact you to start the payment process.

Once the payment request is submitted, it may take 4-6 weeks for the funds to reach your designated bank account.

What is the Overall Acquisitive Award?

All entries are automatically entered into this category regardless of medium and the winning work will then become part of the City of Gosnells collection.

Can I submit an AI-generated artwork?

At this stage, The City of Gosnells Community Art Exhibition and Awards is not accepting AI-generated artwork.

When can I deliver my artwork for the exhibition?

Please refer to the above Key Dates drop-down.

Where is the exhibition held?

The exhibition will be held at the Lyal Richardson Hall, The Agonis.

What if my artwork falls under two or more award categories?

Please choose one medium category that best describes your work plus any focused category (eg, Local, Youth, City and Aboriginal awards).

When will the award winners be announced?

The awards will be announced on Friday, May 15, 2026.
