Southern River residents can walk safely near the intersection of Holmes Road and Southern River Road, following the construction of a new footpath.

Residents recently asked the City of Gosnells to install the footpath and some swift behind-the-scenes planning work resulted in the new section of path being laid as soon as a contractor was available.

Mayor Terresa Lynes said the 200m-long stretch of footpath was the first of a series of footpaths planned for the stretch of road.

“The City has been intending to install footpaths near this intersection for some time, however was waiting for development to take place adjacent to the intersection,” she said.

“It’s pleasing that we were able to respond so quickly to the community’s concerns and I look forward to seeing the path being well used by people walking and cycling in the area.”

Future stages of the project will extend the footpath on both sides of Southern River Road and Holmes Street, connecting residential areas, Sutherlands Park, the new Southern Grove Primary School and local businesses.
