Residential verge collections
Each financial year, the City provides three residential bulk verge collections. These consist of one general junk collection and two green waste collections.
Changes to bulk junk collections for 2026/27
The City is introducing changes to the way we collect bulk junk from your verge. These changes will be in place for your next collection, which starts at the end of August 2026 for some households.

Green waste guidelines
The City provides two green waste verge collections a year to every residential property. Items collected are taken to be recycled and reused -bagged and boxed material will not be collected.
To assist the City in collection, we ask that you follow some guidelines listed below.
Please remember - verge trees remain the property of the City and all maintenance and pruning is to be completed by the City. Please call on 9397 3000 if you have a request.
We will collect:
- Tree and shrub prunings in pieces cut up to 1.5m in length and up to 30cm in diameter
- Palm trunks in pieces cut up to 30cm
We will not collect:
- Bags, boxes or loose-leaf litter or lawn clippings (please place in your grey or red-lidded bin for collection)
- Treated or stained timber
- Prunings more than 1.5m in length or more than 30cm in diameter.
- Weed and root material, including dug-out lawn
- Sand and soil material
- General rubbish, metal, timber, junk or whitegoods
- Mixed piles of junk and green waste
- Green waste from commercial properties
If items do not meet these guidelines, our contractors will not collect the items from your verge and it will remain your responsibility to dispose of them.

Please note:
- Place items on the verge of your property no earlier than seven days prior to your collection date. Preferably, please place your items out the weekend before collections start. The earlier the place the items on your verge, the easier it is for piles to become messy.
- Do not place items on vacant properties or public reserves.
- If any item doesn't comply with guidelines, it won't be collected. You must remove it within seven days or you may be fined.
- While we encourage you to get involved in verge collections, be aware that penalties may apply for failure to comply with collection guidelines.
Littering or illegal dumping penalties apply for:
- Early placement of green waste on verges
- Failure to comply with collection guidelines.

Green Waste Disposal (outside of your two verge collections a year):
The invasive pest polyphagous shot-hole borer has been detected in the Perth metropolitan area, and a quarantine area has been implemented to help protect WA’s forests, food and agriculture industries. All green waste should be securely contained for transport in a covered trailer, truck or skip bin. For more information, visit the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development’s Polyphagous shot-hole borer webpage.
