Explore a ‘Symphony of Stories’ for Children’s Book Week

Enjoy a day of free, story-filled fun celebrating Children’s Book Week at Mills Park Library on Saturday 22 August.

The City of Gosnells Children's Book Week Festival will feature authors and illustrators Renae Hayward, Susan Joy Lu and Rebecca Grant, along with face painting, a scavenger hunt, sensory play, story time sessions, arts, craft and more.

Deputy Mayor Serena Willimason said children were encouraged to dress as their favourite book character.

“Children’s books are an essential and enjoyable part of childhood that deserves to be celebrated,” she said.

“Books inspire imagination and empathy, while helping children explore the world and develop a lifelong love of reading.

“Our libraries make children’s books accessible to everyone in the community and Children’s Book Week is the perfect opportunity for families to discover everything in their local library and get excited about reading.”

Children’s Book Week Festival activities will be held across two sessions, from 9am to 10.45am and 11.15am to 1pm. Places are limited, so families are encouraged to attend just one session. Bookings are not required.

Activities include:

• Main Character Energy with Susan Joy Lu – learn how to draw expressive characters to feature in your own stories

• Potion Bottle Masterpieces with Rebecca Grant – magical paper collage craft

• DIY Symphony Story Makers – build a story-inspired musical instrument

• Imagine and Play with Renae Hayward – imaginative games and creative activities inspired by water play

• Sensory Play with Wonder and Bloom – a playful sensory adventure inspired by books, music and imagination

• Family Story Time with Renae Hayward – celebrate books, listen to a story, play and sing
