The City of Gosnells is taking action to reduce the number of speed-related crashes on local suburban streets, thanks to a road safety partnership with Main Roads WA.

Funded by the Main Roads Urban Road Safety Program, the initiative will see the construction of simple and low-cost road safety treatments at various intersections in Gosnells identified as ‘crash hot spots’.

The safety treatments will include raised platforms, mini-roundabouts and speed humps, and will be installed at 10 locations within the area bound by Corfield Street, King Street, Dorothy Street and Fremantle Road.

Mayor Terresa Lynes said the road safety treatments are designed to protect the community by reducing vehicle speeds and lowering the risk of crash-related injuries or fatalities.

“Installing these safety treatments will help keep pedestrians, cyclists and other road users safe by encouraging drivers to slow down,” Mayor Lynes said.

“Whether you’re walking, cycling, riding an e-scooter or driving, everyone has a right to feel safe on our streets.

“This initiative targets areas with a higher likelihood of crashes. By introducing measures that reduce speeding, we hope to make a meaningful difference.”

The project will be delivered in two stages – the first five treatments are scheduled for completion by the end of June 2025, with the remaining treatments planned for the 2025/26 financial year.

“One of the key benefits of these works is that the treatments can be installed on the existing road surface, which means there is minimal disruption during the installation – and a lasting positive impact for road users,” Mayor Lynes said.
