The City of Gosnells and Gosnells Police are working together to improve community safety and reduce opportunities for crime in Maddington.

Mayor Terresa Lynes said the City and Police had worked closely together for years, including through the Safe City initiative, youth events and programs, and community events.

“Community members have recently reported an increase in antisocial behaviour in Maddington,” she said.

“The City has responded by hosting additional youth activities at the Maddington Skate Park, and is looking at other ways to improve community safety in the area,” she said.

“We know this antisocial behaviour isn’t being committed by young people, but we want the skate park to be a welcoming and safe place for children and young people to spend their time, keep active and feel part of the community.”

“Organising events and activities in community spaces is a great way to attract people to these locations, which improves passive surveillance in the area and reduces the opportunity for antisocial behaviour.”

“One of the best ways community members can improve community safety in their street is to get to know their neighbours, keep an eye out for each other and report antisocial behaviour as it occurs.”

Officer in Charge at Gosnells Police Station, Senior Sergeant Dean Kelland said developing a strong partnership with the City of Gosnells was a key part of engaging the community in working together to prevent crime.

“The Councillors and staff at the City are all working with us to help prevent crime,” he said.

“Gosnells Police Station has officers working 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including public holidays. But we can’t be everywhere at the one time and we need the support of the community. We want to work with the community.”

“So, if you see something, say something. Every bit of information from the community helps build a picture and identify suspects for all kinds of offences.”

Any antisocial behaviour or crime should be reported directly to WA Police on 131 444, or make a report online at police.wa.gov.au.
