Community Theatre Group

Proposal to Establish a Local Community Theatre Group

On 6 February 2014 a public meeting was held at the City of Gosnells Don Russell Performing Arts Centre to assess the level of interest within the community for the proposed establishment of a local community theatre group.

A total of 26 community members attended the public meeting and gave their support to assist with the establishment of a local community theatre group.

Following this public meeting, a working party was established to work alongside the City of Gosnells and City of Canning to pursue the establishment of the community theatre group. The working party is comprised of community members who have various degrees of experience within the performing arts industry, including: acting, producing, writing, directing and community theatre group management. At its last meeting held in May 2014, the working party agreed to work towards establishing a community theatre group from scratch, rather than take over the management of a ‘nomadic’ theatre group who were seeking a home base for its performing arts activities.

The City of Gosnells and City of Canning has offered its support to the working party to take the first step to set up the theatre group by becoming an incorporated community association.

For more information about the proposed establishment of a local community theatre group, please contact the City’s Manager Leisure Services, Mr Patrick Quigley by email to or call 9397 3110.
