Plan your next theatre outing without driving to Perth or Subiaco. The Don Russell Performing Arts Centre is located in Thornlie, with free parking, nearby restaurants and is serviced by a bus route.

The Centre presents national touring shows, monthly Morning Melodies performances and local theatre productions.

Each year the Centre hosts weekly performing arts classes and has more than 90 performances and events which attract about 14,000 patrons.

The Centre is situated on Murdoch Road in Thornlie, next to Forest Lakes Shopping Centre. Please phone 9498 9414 to talk to a staff member or browse the tabs for more information.

Annual program

DRPAC hosts a range of performances throughout the year. All coming shows can be viewed through the Events tab, or on the Events Calendar.

Monthly Features

This diverse season is defined by high calibre professional performances either from interstate or local production companies and individuals. These are often included in national tours and/or state wide tours.

The shows are held once a month, commence in February and cover at least 10 months of the year. Most shows are evening performances but do vary. More details are included on the Events Calendar and bookings can be made online.

Morning Melodies

Morning Melodies is a monthly series of performances tailored for those who are young at heart. If you love live music and entertainment, then this is just the ticket!

Entry price includes morning tea which is served at 10.15am. Performances start at 11am and run for 1hour.

School Holidays

During most school holidays DRPAC presents at least one show/event specifically tailored for children aged 5-12 years of age.
There are generally two performances of the same show, both on the same weekday. Times can vary so it is advisable to check the current Events Calendar.

International Series

This program of occasional events exists to present shows with an international flavour, though has particular emphasis on World Music. Features up to four performances per year.

Corporate Sponsorship Opportunities

DRPAC attracts approximately 16,000 people per annum, so would be suitable for businesses/sponsors keen to target their products and services to large audiences within the children, adults and seniors demographic areas.

Dance studio for hire

The Dance Studio at Don Russell Performing Arts Centre in Thornlie is available to hire for performing arts activities.

The 7.5m x 11.5m studio has:

  • a sprung wooden floor
  • full length mirrors
  • a ballet bar.

The studio and adjacent foyer have cold refrigerated air-conditioning and there’s plenty of free parking outside.

Lakers Tavern is located across the carpark from DRPAC. Patrons just need to present their DRPAC show ticket on the day/night of the show to receive the discount.

Local Community Theatre Group – New City Theatre Inc.

Are you interested in participating in local theatre shows?

New City Theatre Inc. is a local community theatre group that was established in August 2014 to provide opportunities for local people to participate in performing arts. 

The group was established through the assistance of the City of Gosnells and City of Canning and perform shows at local venues, including Don Russell Performing Arts Centre and Canning Town Hall.

Theatre information

Don Russell Performing Arts Centre is the premier theatre venue in Perth’s eastern suburbs.

Owned and managed by the City of Gosnells, this purpose built performing arts facility has a comfortable 210 seat theatre and a fully equipped dance studio. The intimate theatre boasts excellent acoustics, cushioned tiered seating and clear sightlines from almost every seat in the house.

Up to date equipment, professional staff and an invaluable volunteers group combine to make every event a success.

Theatre

It features comprehensive audio and lighting systems, including an audio loop for the hearing impaired. Qualified lighting and audio technicians are provided. The first two rows of removable seating provide staging options for concerts and seminars.

The following dimensions are standard and exclusive of wing space:

Our fabulous volunteers manage the kitchen and provide an ushering service during shows. If you would like to become a DRPAC volunteer, please contact the centre. 

General Information

The centre has reverse cycle air conditioning for year round comfort. ACROD parking bays, easy access toilets and wheelchair access to the theatre are provided for people with disabilities.

Tickets for the 25-plus events programmed annually can be purchased online, for your convenience. Your credit card details are deleted immediately after your transaction is processed, making online booking both easy and secure. Click on 'Buy Tickets to a Show' in the Related Links below.

Venue hire

The Don Russell Performing Arts Centre is a modern, universally accessible and self contained venue close to public transport and free parking.

The centre offers three areas for hire including:

  • Studio room with polished floors and versatile room layout making it suitable for meetings, workshops and conferences.
  • Auditorium with a fully equipped theatre and tiered seating for 216 people, modern audio and lighting systems, a stage and backstage area featuring a walk-in wardrobe and dressing room with full amenities. An easy access drive-in loading bay is also available. This is suitable for presentations, conferences, product launches, award nights, school graduations, seminars and performances. 
  • Foyer with comfortable furniture and spaces to mingle, mix or gather in groups. It’s the perfect setting for networking, cocktail functions, business gatherings or breakouts during seminars.
