City of Gosnells Chief Executive Officer Ian Cowie was awarded the Local Government Professionals Local Government Medal, last week.

Mr Cowie received the medal on Thursday 5 November at the Local Government Professionals WA conference, for his high-level participation in Local Government Professionals WA work, and for his contribution to the enhancement of the local government sector.

Mayor David Goode congratulated Mr Cowie on his award.

“Ian is a much-valued asset to the City of Gosnells and his influence and leadership can be seen across all aspects of the City’s projects, programs and events in the community,” Mayor Goode said.

“I, personally, am very proud to work with Ian on a daily basis as I get to witness first-hand his incredible knowledge and ability to ‘get things done’. This is not easy in any large organisation.”

Local Government Professionals WA CEO Candy Choo said Mr Cowie was a worthy recipient of the medal, in particular for his advocacy of Local Government, and his guidance and mentoring of others.

Mr Cowie has been CEO at the City of Gosnells since 2009, and was recognised with a Public Service Medal as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honours in June 2014.

He has served as a board member of Local Government Professionals WA from 2007, and led the policy team which developed the 1995 Local Government Act during his employment with the Department of Local Government.
