The City of Gosnells’ efforts to keep its community connected and positive during the first COVID-19 lockdown has been acknowledged, with the City recognised as a finalist at this year’s WA Council of Social Services Community Service Excellence Awards.

Home But Not Alone (HBNA), a campaign by the City to bring people together while in isolation, was one of only four finalists in the Large Organisation category out of almost 40 nominations submitted to the annual awards. The City was the only local government finalist in any category.

HBNA caught the judges’ attention for its innovation. What began as an online resource, soon evolved into a series of street-based, socially-distanced events to ensure local residents – including the 18 per cent who had no internet access – could be involved.

Mayor David Goode said the City was thrilled to be among a deserving field of nominees and was proud to receive recognition for its commitment to supporting and engaging the local community.
