Mary Carroll Park

This regional park slightly larger than 22 hectares is divided into two wetland areas by Eudoria Street.

A Conservation Category Wetland and Bush Forever site, this park is known as a major bird sanctuary and is listed as a ‘must see’ by Birdlife Australia (National Ornithological Society). There are twelve water birds species known to breed here and thirty-five species known to take advantage of the wetland.

The park has a brand new all abilities playground featuring a giant gilgie with climbing features, flying fox, swings and a spinner under shade sails with an Aboriginal art motif. There is a Changing Places facility, pedestrian bridges and viewing platform over the lake, as well as barbecues and picnic shelters.

A 10 minute walk to the Gosnells Train Station and Gosnells Town Centre, the site is centrally located, surrounded by residential houses and the northern end of the park adjoins Gosnells Primary School.

Access around the park is easy for members of the community by the network of pathways and is shaded by tall stands of native trees.

Who was Mary Carroll?

Mary Carroll (1891 - 1971) was a well-known naturalist and taught at nearby Gosnells Primary School 1923 - 1956. Mrs Carroll would take her students on native walks around and through the wetland as part of her teaching activities.

Friends of Mary Carroll Wetland work with the City of Gosnells to manage the wetland and surrounds.
