Frequently Asked Questions
How long can I run my exhibition for?
We typically encourage artists to host their exhibitions for 2-4 weeks at the Fishbowl Gallery.
The Arts Team are happy to discuss other options depending on availability.
What days/hours can I open the exhibition?
Exhibitors typically follow similar opening hours to the Gosnells Library located down the corridor from the Whitely Fishbowl Gallery. The Gosnells Library draws much of the foot traffic to this entrance of the Agonis Building.
Hirers can open the Gallery outside of these hours (i.e. Sunday’s). The Arts Team will explain any requirements for afterhours access.
What is meant by bump-in/bump-out dates?
We recommend artists allow for one day on either end of their exhibition to set up (bump-in) and pack down (bump-out) their exhibition.
The 1-day-buffer on either side of an exhibition helps with our scheduling.
When and where do I collect the keys?
The Arts Team will email closer to the exhibition to confirm the collection date.
Keys are to be collected from the Gosnells Civic Centre during opening hours. The Civic Centre is located approximately a 2-minute drive or 15-minute walk from the Fishbowl Gallery.
Exhibitors should not return the keys until they have finished bumping-out the exhibition. The Arts Team can arrange after-hours drop-off for gallery keys at request.
Am I a hobbyist?
This question is based on the ATO’s indicators of a hobbyist status.
Indicating factors can include whether the activity;
- has actually started
- has a significant commercial purpose or character
- is undertaken with a purpose of profit as well as a prospect of profit
- is carried out in a manner that is characteristic of the industry
- has repetition, regularity or continuity
- is planned, organised and carried on in a business-like manner
- is of a sufficient size, scale and permanency to generate a profit
- is not more properly described as a hobby, recreation or sporting activity.
If you are a hobbyist, please provide a Statement by Supplier form with your application.
Please do not provide an ABN on your application then state you are also a hobbyist.
Do I need Public Liability Insurance
If you have an ABN that relates to the activities you’re undertaking at the Fishbowl Gallery, you will need Public Liability Insurance.
We understand that in many cases, exhibitors cannot provide a certificate of currency till closer to the exhibition date. In most circumstances the Arts Team can pencil in your booking and confirm closer to the date.
If you provide proof of your hobbyist status (with a Statement by Supplier form) you do not require Public Liability Insurance.
What artwork mediums/styles do you accept?
We’ll accept any physical art mediums; craft works and framed photographs/mixed media as long as the pieces can be displayed safely in the Fishbowl Gallery.
How will the City promote my exhibition?
All exhibitions are promoted on our website.
Where achievable, the exhibition will be shared on the Programs and Events Facebook page and Community e-Newsletter.
The Arts Team will have more opportunities to promote your exhibition if application is received well in advance and exhibitors provide high-quality media assets.
