On the day

Students arrive at the Museum at 9.30am and are given an introduction to the site and its history. After going back 100 years in time, the students meet a variety of characters from Gosnells' past, which may include Miss Salter, the local school teacher, and John and Emma Wilkinson, who lived on the property and developed the orchard. The students participate in four activities and a morning tea break. After the activities, schools have the option of staying to have their lunch and playing traditional games including sack races, egg and spoon races and quoits. Schools can stay on site until 1.00pm.

History Boxes

Our History Boxes contain a variety of artefacts which highlight differences between life in the 20th Century and the world today. They address the History and Technology strands of lower and middle primary.

‘A Day in the Life of Emma Wilkinson’ contains a selection of domestic items and follows Emma as she goes about her daily activities and chores. Items include a sad iron, butter pats, a wash board and dolly stick.

‘Learn and Play’ contains items used at school and resources that showcase the everyday lives of children in the local area. Items include a typewriter, slate boards, pen and ink, tin can telephones and knuckle bones.

'Communication' focuses on changing technology, from Morse Code to telephones. Items include a Morse Code machine, rotary and button telephones, mobile phones and a phone book.

The History Boxes are heavy duty, wheeled cases.

History Boxes can be borrowed for two weeks at a time. Extensions are possible and will depend on availability. Extensions must be arranged prior to the return date.

There is no charge to borrow the History Boxes, but if damaged or lost, costs will be incurred as per the City of Gosnells fees and charges schedule.

Call 9397 3144 or email Heritage_Queries@gosnells.wa.gov.au to make a booking.
