Community members can refresh their wardrobes, learn new skills and take positive climate action, one stitch at a time, at the Great Global Mend.

The City of Gosnells and Switch Your Thinking will host a clothing swap and mending event at Thornlie Park Centre on Saturday 7 November. Doors open at 9am with clothing swaps taking place from 10am to 10.45am, before mending begins at 11am sharp.

The Great Global Mend is Australia’s biggest simultaneous repair event, bringing together hundreds of people across the country to mend items at the same time.

City of Gosnells Mayor Terresa Lynes said attendees could bring up to 10 items of good quality, clean clothing to swap.

“Swapping and repairing clothes as part of the Great Global Mend is a practical way to reduce textile waste, save money, connect with like-minded people and give your wardrobe a refresh,” she said.

“You don’t need any sewing experience to take part. Experienced menders will be on hand to help repair items, whether they need a new button, a patch for a hole, or a hem fixed. You might even pick up a few new skills along the way.”

The City of Gosnells Great Global Mend event is presented by FabPatch and Care to Rewear.

Please note that underwear and shoes are not permitted in the clothing swap.

Switch Your Thinking is an initiative of the City of Gosnells, City of Armadale and Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale.
