Volunteering gets you involved in your community while helping others.  The Addie Mills Centre provides many programs and services to seniors and people with disability that require volunteers. If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact the Addie Mills Centre.

Hairdresser

The Hairdresser is available from 8.30am Tuesday to Friday.

Please ring the hairdresser on 9398 3449 after hours 0415 650 633.

Please Note: The hairdresser works to her own hours, not the Centre’s hours.

In centre dining

Many people dislike preparing a meal to eat by themselves. As eating is an important social activity, the Addie Mills Centre provides a midday meal Monday to Friday so that seniors and people with a disability can enjoy the company of others.

Bookings for lunch are essential, so to avoid disappointment you are required to book before 10:30am on the day you would like to come in.

Subsidised meal prices are offered to customers assessed as being eligible for the Commonwealth Home Support program.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels

The Meals on Wheels service provides a freshly cooked nutritionally balanced meal delivered to your door by a volunteer. Options include a soup, a main meal and a sweet. Meals are delivered to your home daily Monday to Friday.  Weekend meals are delivered on Fridays. 

Eligibility

To access Meals on Wheels, people need to live in the City of Gosnells and meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • 65 years or older,
  • Have a disability  
  • Require assistance short term with meal preparation

Referrals

Clients can self-refer or alternatively referrals can be received from - hospitals, doctors, social workers, service providers, relatives, friends, carers or neighbours.

The Commonwealth Home Support Program is a government funded program to help older people stay independent and in their homes and communities for longer. Clients may be eligible for a subsidy from the Commonwealth Home Support Program if they are 65 years or over and are referred by My Aged Care – 1800 200 422 https://www.myagedcare.gov.au/

On occasion, clients may not be eligible under the Commonwealth Home Support Program guidelines but may still need assistance with meals if they have a disability or require the service for a short period of time, i.e. recent admission to hospital or following surgery. On these occasions, at the discretion of the Centre Supervisor, clients may be accepted on a Full Cost Recovery basis.

Social Club

The Addie Mills Social Club operates from the main hall of the Centre.

New members (over 55) are welcome. The club organises a wide range of activities.

Transport and referral services

Transport

A transport service is available to take people to and from the Addie Mills Centre.  A modern, comfortable bus with attendant can pick up and deliver home 17 customers per day.

This service is offered Monday to Friday free of charge.

The City senior services team is committed to ensuring that customers are provide with timely and accurate information in relation to services available to meet their individual needs. In the event the services are not within the scope of the City, customers are referred to appropriate agencies.

Be Connected - Digital Drop-In

When: Starting 3 February, first and third Wednesday of the month. Drop-in between 1:30 - 2:30pm

If you are having trouble with your smartphone, tablet or laptop or are unsure how to get started using new technology, drop in and visit our friendly tech volunteers.

Our team will help you make the most of your device in one-on-one sessions of up to 30 minutes.

Come along with a specific goal in mind so our team can know how best to assist. Topics covered include wi-fi, email, digital photos, social media, video chat, online resources and more.

Please note, no appointments are needed as participants are assisted by the next available tech volunteer throughout the session.

Card Group

When: Thursdays 10 - 11:30am

Card games are an inexpensive and fun way to keep your mind active. 

Whether you're a card shark or a novice, start your day with a cuppa and a friendly game of cards with a social and welcoming group.

Chair Yoga

When: Mondays and Thursdays 11am - 12pm

Monday class restarting 11 January 2021.

Thursday class restarting 14 January 2021.

Yoga has been shown to increase strength and balance and helps reduce the risk of falls.

Chair yoga uses a chair for stability to achieve the yoga poses while having the same health benefits.

Added benefits include flexibility, reduced stress and social interaction.

Facilitated by an accredited Yoga instructor it is a fun and gentle way to achieve great health results. 


This programs is open to City of Gosnells residents aged 55+.

Grow and Share Cart

When: Weekdays from 8am to 4.30pm

Grow and Share community carts are popping up all over Australia and we think it’s time Gosnells got involved.

Growing a supportive community can start right from your own home. Do you have a laden lemon tree or more silver beet than you could possible eat? If you have more than you need, we encourage you to share your bounty and offer what you can to others.

The City has launched our Grow and Share Cart and we encourage you to stop by, give what you can, take what you need and help grow and nurture our Gosnells community.

Mahjong at Addie Mills

When: Tuesdays 10am - 11:30am

Share some time with friends and settle in with a cup of tea or coffee for a fun game of Mahjong.

Experienced and friendly players are happy to assist new-comers to the game.

Open Eye Meditation

When: Tuesdays, 9am – 10am

Start your day with a peaceful and inspiring hour of meditation.

Lead by experienced facilitators, participants will be guided through a relaxing meditation and offered a mindfulness card to take home to encourage further contemplation.

Singing for Fun

When: Tuesdays during school terms, 2pm – 3:30pm

Recommencing Tuesday 2nd February 2021.

This group is for those who enjoy singing. Singing is not only great for your body and posture, it’s wonderful for the soul.

This welcoming and social group explore different musical genres with the help of an experienced facilitator. What could be more fun that singing in a group, learning new skills and making new friends?

No musical experience is required and a light afternoon tea will be provided.
