Profile - Saiful Islam

I’m Saiful, your elected Councillor since 2023, bringing a wealth of experience and dedication to public service. Having lived in various Australian capital cities, my wife and I chose Thornlie as the ideal place to establish our home and raise a family.

In the City of Gosnells community, I have served as a Justice of the Peace (JP) and actively volunteered for local charities.  Academically, I hold a Bachelor of Business and a Master of Commerce in Accounting, complemented by over a decade of service in the Australian Public Service (APS).  As an Executive in the APS, I serve Australians with the highest standards of professionalisms and integrity.

My role as your Councillor is underpinned by a commitment to several key focus areas:

• Enhancing engagement: strengthening the relationship between the Council and residents
• Environmental stewardship: advocating for the preservation of our surroundings 
• Financial governance: ensuring judicious and responsible financial management
• Diversity and inclusion: fostering a safer and more inclusive multicultural community
• Economic support: actively supporting and promoting local businesses and community groups
