Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 8am to 4.30pm.  The centre is closed on Public Holidays.

Volunteering

Give back to those who need your help the most.  The Addie Mills Centre provides many programs and services to seniors and people with disability. Volunteers are required for a number of different positions, contact the Addie Mills Centre for all enquiries.

Transport and referral services

Transport

A transport service is available to take people to and from the Addie Mills Centre.  A modern, comfortable bus with attendant can pick up and deliver home 17 customers per day.

This service is offered Monday to Friday free of charge.

Referral

The City senior services team is committed to ensuring that customers are provide with timely and accurate information in relation to services available to meet their individual needs. In the event the services are not within the scope of the City, customers are referred to appropriate agencies.

In centre dining

Many people dislike preparing a meal to eat by themselves.  As eating is an important social activity, the Addie Mills Centre provides a midday meal  Monday to Friday so that seniors and people with a disability can enjoy the company of others.

Bookings for lunch are essential, so to avoid disappointment you are required to book before 10:30am on the day you would like to come in.

Subsidised meal prices are offered to customers assessed as being eligible for Home and Community Care services.

Meals on Wheels

The Meals on Wheels service provides a freshly cooked nutritionally balanced meal, including soup, main course and dessert, delivered to your home daily Monday to Friday.  Weekend meals are delivered with the Friday meal.  A subsidy is received from the Home and Community Care Program, jointly funded by the Commonwealth and State Governments.

Eligibility

To access Meals on Wheels, people need to meet the following Health Department criteria:

  • Are older frail and having difficulty with everyday tasks;
  • Have a disability;  

Referrals

Customers can self refer or alternatively referrals can be received from - hospitals, doctors, service providers, relatives, a friend or a neighbour.

On occasion customers may not be eligible under the Home and Community Care guidelines but may still need assistance with meals for a short period of time, i.e. recent admission to hospital or requiring short term assistance following surgery. On these occasions, at the discretion of the Senior Services Coordinators, customers may be taken onto the program as Full Cost Recovery clients.

Disability Services

The City offers a range of community based services and programs for people with disability, their brothers and sisters and families. 

Including people with a disability in their community and working with individuals and families/carers to ensure that programs and services remain responsive to individual needs is the focus of the City's Disability Services Branch.

Social Club

The Addie Mills Social Club operates from the Main hall of the Centre.

New members (over 55) are welcome. The club organises a number of activities which include:

Hairdresser

The Hairdresser is available from 8.30am Tuesday to Friday.

Please ring the hairdresser on 9398 3449 after hours 0415 650 633.

Please Note: The hairdresser works to her own hours, not the Centre’s hours.

Brain Training

When: Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 10am – 11.30am

A fun social group engaged in stimulating activities including cards and board games, puzzles and bingo.

Along with keeping the mind active it is an opportunity to meet new people. Morning tea included.

Chair Yoga

When: Monday: 10.30am – 11.30am; Friday: 9:30am - 10:30am

Yoga has been shown to increase strength and balance and helps reduce the risk of falls. Chair yoga uses a chair for stability to achieve the yoga poses while having the same health benefits. Added benefits include flexibility, reduced stress, and social interaction.

Facilitated by an accredited Yoga instructor it is a fun and gentle way to achieve great health results.

Senior couple
Computer Hub

When: Wednesdays, by appointment

Seniors computer classes have been customised to the needs of the individual with one-on-one training. Each participant can nominate the area in which they need specialised instruction e.g. email, uploading photos, skype, internet, tablets use.

45 minute sessions are available once a week, over 3-6 weeks and attendance is mandatory at every session booked to maintain your place. There is currently a wait list.

Exergaming

When: Thursdays, 10am - 11am

Exergaming is a mix of low impact exercising and games using an XBOX. There are games to suit everyone. It is fun and interactive and requires no previous experience or skill. Ask for a demo.

This is a small group looking for more seniors to help in their team challenges.

Seniors Home Safety Audits

When: Tuesday by appointment, April - September

City of Gosnells, WA Police and DFES will visit your home to advise on fire and crime prevention measures that can be implemented in your home.

The advice provided in the checklists from the Police and Fire Department, can make the difference in preventing a fire or home burglary or theft. It is often the simple things that can get overlooked but an audit brings them to your attention.

Residents are provided with a free fire blanket, crime prevention item, completed checklist and information kit. A battery operated smoke detector will be installed if required.

Table Tennis Program 55 years plus

Enjoy the benefits of physical exercise in a fun, social setting.

Table tennis provides an opportunity to meet new people while improving overall fitness, strength, agility and improve hand to eye coordination.

Fees: Cost is $2 per session includes tea, coffee and biscuits.

Table Top Games

When: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10am - 11am

Share some time with friends; enjoy a great game, and some morning tea.

On Tuesdays, learn games such as Mahjong, and Rummy-o.

Thursdays is a card group and other groups are welcome to share the space.

Twilight Picnic on the South Perth Foreshore - Tue 10 Jan 2017
When: Tuesday 10 January, 4.00PM - 9.30PM

The grassy South Perth foreshore provides a beautiful view of the city lights and the spectacular Swan River. Participants will hop on a Ferry to visit Elizabeth Quay before returning to South Perth to enjoy a gourmet picnic.

Torchlight Tour of Fremantle Prison - Wed 25 Jan 2017
When: Wednesday 25 January, 4.00PM - 9.15PM

Explore the darker side of the Fremantle Prison story at night on an eerie torchlight tour. The tour gives an insight not possible in the light of day and is an experience not to be missed.

Perth Observatory Tour - Fri 24 Feb 2017

Experience our amazing night sky through a wide range of telescopes at the Perth Observatory in Bickley. Volunteers will take you on a grand tour of the sky including nebulas, planets, dying stars, and star clusters.

Kalamunda History Village Tour - Tue 28 Feb 2017
When: Tuesday 28 February, 9.15AM - 1.00PM

Kalamunda History Village is on the site of the old Upper Darling Range Railway Station, which was built in the 1890s to service the Zig Zag line which transported timber from Canning Mills to Midland Junction. It is the largest folk museum in Western Australia depicting the unique hills life and industries that developed in the area.

Historical Homesteads Tour day - Tue 28 Mar 2017
