Seniors Home Safety Audits

When: Tuesday by appointment, May - October

City of Gosnells, and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services  (DFES)  will visit your home to advise on fire and crime prevention measures that can be implemented in your home.

The advice provided in the supplied checklists can make the difference in preventing a fire or home burglary or theft. It is often the simple things that can get overlooked but an audit brings them to your attention.

Residents are provided with a free fire blanket, crime prevention information kit, and completed checklists. A battery operated smoke detector will be installed if required

The City of Gosnells was awarded a WA Police Force Community Crime Prevention grant of $9,400 for 2017. This grant enabled the City to conduct Home Safety Audits and supply safety equipment to people aged 55 and over who live in the City. The Seniors’ Home Safety Audit Program involves a City staff member and an officer from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services attending people’s homes and conducting an audit checklist, to provide information and practical suggestions on how to reduce the risk of burglary and fire. As a result of the grant, 29 of the 49 homes audited in this period were identified as requiring security sensor lights, and the City arranged supply and installation of these lights. During the audit, six homes were identified as benefitting from door latch guards, and the City supplied these for self-installation. The audits and supply of safety equipment provided an increased sense of safety for residents. The City would like to thank the WA Police Force for their funding support.
