Disability Services

The City offers a range of community based services and programs for people with disability, their brothers and sisters and families. 

Including people with a disability in their community and working with individuals and families/carers to ensure that programs and services remain responsive to individual needs is the focus of the City's Disability Services Branch.

In centre dining

Many people dislike preparing a meal to eat by themselves.  As eating is an important social activity, the Addie Mills Centre provides a midday meal  Monday to Friday so that seniors and people with a disability can enjoy the company of others.

Bookings for lunch are essential, so to avoid disappointment you are required to book before 10:30am on the day you would like to come in.

Subsidised meal prices are offered to customers assessed as being eligible for Home and Community Care services.

Meals on Wheels

The Meals on Wheels service provides a freshly cooked nutritionally balanced meal, including soup, main course and dessert, delivered to your home daily Monday to Friday.  Weekend meals are delivered with the Friday meal.  A subsidy is received from the Home and Community Care Program, jointly funded by the Commonwealth and State Governments.


To access Meals on Wheels, people need to meet the following Health Department criteria:

  • Are older frail and having difficulty with everyday tasks;
  • Have a disability;  


Customers can self refer or alternatively referrals can be received from - hospitals, doctors, service providers, relatives, a friend or a neighbour.

On occasion customers may not be eligible under the Home and Community Care guidelines but may still need assistance with meals for a short period of time, i.e. recent admission to hospital or requiring short term assistance following surgery. On these occasions, at the discretion of the Senior Services Coordinators, customers may be taken onto the program as Full Cost Recovery clients.

Social Club

The Addie Mills Social Club operates from the Main hall of the Centre.

New members (over 55) are welcome. The club organises a number of activities which include:




Carpet bowls Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10am to 2pm

Concert Tuesday 1pm
Bootscooting Thursday 9.30am
Bingo Thursday 12.40pm

Transport and referral services


A transport service is available to take people to and from the Addie Mills Centre.  A modern, comfortable bus with attendant can pick up and deliver home 17 customers per day.

This service is offered Monday to Friday free of charge.

Brain Training

When: Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 10am – 11.30am

A fun social group engaged in stimulating activities including cards and board games, puzzles and bingo.

Along with keeping the mind active it is an opportunity to meet new people. Morning tea included.

Chair Yoga

When: Mondays, 11am - 12pm

Yoga has been shown to increase strength and balance and helps reduce the risk of falls. Chair yoga uses a chair for stability to achieve the yoga poses while having the same health benefits. Added benefits include flexibility, reduced stress, and social interaction.

Facilitated by an accredited Yoga instructor it is a fun and gentle way to achieve great health results.

Computer Hub

When: Wednesdays, by appointment

Seniors computer classes have been customised to the needs of the individual with one-on-one training. Each participant can nominate the area in which they need specialised instruction e.g. email, uploading photos, skype, internet, tablets use.

45 minute sessions are available once a week, over 3-6 weeks and attendance is mandatory at every session booked to maintain your place. There is currently a wait list.

One on one computer training at Addie Mills

When: Thursdays, 10am - 11am

Exergaming is a mix of low impact exercising and games using an XBOX. There are games to suit everyone. It is fun and interactive and requires no previous experience or skill. Ask for a demo.

This is a small group looking for more seniors to help in their team challenges.

Pole Walking

When: Tuesday and Thursday, 8.30am to 9.30am

Come along and join in a fun interactive walking group which utilises the use of poles to provide a low impact cardio exercise while enjoying the company of likeminded people. Pole walking is an enjoyable method of walking using specially designed poles that exercise both the upper and lower body. Poles are available for loan or you’re welcome to use your own.

Seniors Home Safety Audits

When: Tuesday by appointment, May - October

City of Gosnells, WA Police and DFES will visit your home to advise on fire and crime prevention measures that can be implemented in your home.

The advice provided in the checklists from the Police and Fire Department, can make the difference in preventing a fire or home burglary or theft. It is often the simple things that can get overlooked but an audit brings them to your attention.

Residents are provided with a free fire blanket, crime prevention item, completed checklist and information kit. A battery operated smoke detector will be installed if required.

Table Tennis Program 55 years plus

When: Mondays, 1.00pm to 3.00pm

Enjoy the benefits of physical exercise in a fun, social setting.

Table tennis provides an opportunity to meet new people while improving overall fitness, strength, agility and improve hand to eye coordination.

Fees: Cost is $2 per session includes tea, coffee and biscuits.

Table Top Games

When: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10am - 11am

Share some time with friends; enjoy a great game, and some morning tea.

On Tuesdays, learn games such as Mahjong, and Rummy-o.

Thursdays is a card group and other groups are welcome to share the space.

Perth Observatory Tour - Fri 24 Feb 2017
When: Friday 24 February, 6.00PM - 9.00PM

Experience our amazing night sky through a wide range of telescopes at the Perth Observatory in Bickley. Volunteers will take you on a grand tour of the sky including nebulas, planets, dying stars, and star clusters. Registrations open Thursday 9 February.

Kalamunda History Village Tour - Tue 28 Feb 2017

Kalamunda History Village is on the site of the old Upper Darling Range Railway Station, which was built in the 1890s to service the Zig Zag line which transported timber from Canning Mills to Midland Junction. Registrations open 14 February.
