Nominate a champion of your community

Published on 21 August 2026

Who is the person in your community who is always there for others? Who quietly gives their time, brings people together, lends a helping hand or goes above and beyond to make a difference?

The City of Gosnells is calling on the community to shine a light on these local champions by nominating them for the Community Citizen of the Year Awards, held in conjunction with Auspire – Australia Day Council WA.

Nominations for four categories open on Tuesday 1 September and close on Saturday 31 October.

Whether they have made an outstanding contribution over the past year or have spent decades giving back to the community, the City wants to hear about the people and groups who make a difference.

Winners will be announced at the City’s Australia Day Big Breakfast on Tuesday 26 January 2027 at Centennial Pioneer Park, Gosnells.

City of Gosnells Mayor Terresa Lynes encouraged residents to take a moment to think about the people who make their community stronger and nominate someone who deserves to be recognised.

“Every community has people who step up, lend a hand and make a real difference without expecting anything in return,” Ms Lynes said.

“These awards are an opportunity to say thank you and recognised the incredible contribution of local people and groups.

“You many know someone who deserves to be recognised. Please take a few minutes to nominate them. Your nomination could help shine a light on a local champion and show them just how much their contribution means to our community.”

Nominees may have contributed to a wide variety of areas, including volunteering, education, health, sport, arts, business, the environment, fundraising, social inclusion or community events.

The award categories include Community Citizen of the Year, Young Community Citizen of the Year, Senior Community Citizen of the Year and Active Citizenship for a group or event.

The City encourages nominations for people and groups from all backgrounds and welcomes nominations that celebrate the many different ways people contribute to the community.
