City of Gosnells’ Fusion Festival wins national award

The City of Gosnells’ flagship community event, the Fusion Food and Culture Festival, has taken top honours in the Arts and Culture category at the 2025 National Awards for Local Government.

Now in its 39th year, the annual awards celebrate excellence across 13 categories, highlighting the achievements of local governments nationwide.

Sponsored by Lotterywest, Maddington Central and Great Beginnings, Fusion was recognised for its role in building a stronger, more connected community through arts and culture.

After being named a finalist, the festival went on to win the prestigious award, thanks to overwhelming public support.

Mayor Terresa Lynes said the award win reflected the growing impact of the festival on the local community.

“We are immensely proud to see our Fusion Food and Culture Festival recognised on the national stage,” Mayor Lynes said.

“Each year, Fusion continues to grow, drawing bigger crowds and bringing our community together. It’s a massive effort involving more than 840 staff, contractors, entertainers and volunteers.”

Now a highlight of the City’s annual cultural and events calendar, Fusion attracted a record crowd of more than 40,000 over two nights last year.

“Fusion is more than just a festival – it’s a celebration of unity and understanding,” Mayor Lynes said.

“It shows that, regardless of our culture or background, we can come together in harmony.”

With more than 40 per cent of residents in the City of Gosnells born overseas, and over a third speaking a language other than English at home, Fusion is a vibrant showcase of the City’s rich cultural diversity.

“As one of the most diverse local governments in the Perth metropolitan area, the City is incredibly proud to host an event like Fusion,” Mayor Lynes said.

“This award reinforces just how important events like this are to our community.”
