The City’s Health Services undertakes a range of duties that involve food safety such as routine health inspections of all registered food premises within the City to assess compliance with relevant legislation. The City also undertakes routine food sampling of food products from local businesses as well as responding to reports of food poisoning.
The City’s Health Service undertakes routine food premises inspections and may carry out food sampling as part of regular surveillance or due to a food product complaint. Foods provided for sale are to be safe and suitable that meet the requirements of the relevant legislation.

Food sampling
Officers sample food products from food premises within the City to monitor compliance with the Food Act 2008 and the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code. The variety of foods sampled is broad and includes food products either produced or sold in the City.
The City’s Health Service is also involved in coordinated food sampling surveys with the Department of Health and the Local Authority Analytical Committee.
