Fun Scary Puppet Show at Play & Learn at the Shops, a themed session for Child Protection Week

Parenting comes with its fair share of challenges, but helping your little ones understand safety doesn’t have to be one of them! Join us for Play Time at the Shops, where families will enjoy an exciting and educational puppet show designed to teach kids about protective behaviours in a fun and age-appropriate way.

The Fun Scary Puppet Show uses lively puppets and catchy tunes to help young children learn the difference between safe and unsafe situations, all in a friendly and non-scary environment.

This engaging performance, created by the Constable Care Foundation, is backed by experts in education, child safety, and harm prevention, so both you and your child will leave entertained and informed. Come along for a session of fun, learning, and peace of mind!

Show Synopsis and Concepts Addressed

Synopsis: “Timmy, Teagan, and Sarge the Dog are at the park enjoying a beautiful afternoon. They get butterflies in their tummies as they zoom down the slide and their hearts pound with excitement playing chasey. They realise that it can be pretty fun to feel a little scared, but not always.

Fun Scary looks at the difference between safe and unsafe scary feelings. Timmy and Teagan learn about their warning signs and that there is always a safe person to talk about the unsafe scary stuff.

This fun play will help children identify feelings to increase emotional literacy and support them in identifying their own safe network of adults to talk to.”

Concepts: The following concepts are addressed during the performance:

  • Protective behaviours

  • Physiological signs of distress

  • Emotional literacy

  • Developing a 'helping hand' network of trusted adults

  • Keeping safe and unsafe secrets

  • Perseverance in advising adults and being heard
