A City of Gosnells program helping culturally and linguistically diverse residents stay safe around water has won a Community Impact Award at the 2025 WA Aquatic Recreation Industry Awards.

Mayor Terresa Lynes said the Swim 4 Safety program was designed to support families from demographics identified as having a higher risk of drowning by providing both swimming lessons and water safety education for children and their families.

“Swim 4 Safety assists vulnerable swimmers in our community who are statistically more likely to experience drowning or near-drowning incidents,” she said.

“This award recognises Leisure World’s success in providing an inclusive, safe and vibrant leisure centre that supports the City of Gosnells community.”

The Swim 4 Safety program takes a dual approach – teaching children how to swim while also educating their families about water safety practices.

It is funded by a grant from the Australian Government, managed by the Australian Sports Commission.

In addition to the award win, Leisure World was also highly commended in the Watch Around Water Facility of the Year category, further highlighting the City’s strong commitment to water safety.
