Thornlie ratepayer Maxine Lyttle was among 10 lucky Western Australians to win back the cost of their 2021/22 annual council Rate Notice.

Earlier this year, the WA Local Government Association held a competition to pay household rates for those in the draw to correctly identify how Councils calculate annual residential rates.

Mayor David Goode said the idea of the competition was to help more ratepayers understand how rates were calculated and used to provide the vast range of local government services.

“Congratulations to Maxine on being one of 10 winners, drawn from more than 99,000 entries from around the State,” he said.

Maxine, a Thornlie resident of almost 40 years, will receive a refund of her rates bill.

“The win will be a handy boost to my south-west holiday plans later this year,” she said.

Mayor Goode encouraged more ratepayers to learn how their rates contributed to the numerous facilities and services the City provides.
