When Allen Holloway put his hand up to be Chairman of the Gosnells Community Men’s Shed, he looked to the City of Gosnells Just for Clubs program for support and took part in a free webinar on ‘How to be a successful president’.

“I have been involved in clubs most of my life, and I thought this would be a good refresher,” Mr Holloway said.

“It meant I was able to walk into my new role with a lot of confidence and ready to institute a lot of changes that needed to be made.”

Through the webinar, Mr Holloway was also able to make connections with presidents of a range of different clubs across Australia. He recommends the Just for Clubs program to other clubs in the City.

“If I wanted to front my committee and ask for hundreds of dollars to send people on these courses I would have to fight really hard, so we are extremely grateful to the City of Gosnells for these opportunities,” he said.

Just for Clubs has recently released a new series of free webinars for sporting and recreation groups in the City of Gosnells. These include club finances, fundraising, coaching, promotions, club culture, emotional intelligence, strategic planning, running effective meetings, and much more.

City of Gosnells Mayor Terresa Lynes said Just for Clubs also gave clubs access to one-to-one mentoring with a club development expert, local networking events, and a free resource hub.

“Clubs and community groups fill such important roles, making our community healthier, stronger and better connected, so it makes sense for the City to support them in this way,” she said.

“To be successful and sustainable, sporting and recreation clubs need to develop a wide range of skills and knowledge, from governance, planning, and finances, to cultural understanding and volunteer management.”

More information about Just for Clubs can be found on the City’s website at gosnells.wa.gov.au. Details of upcoming webinars will be released monthly.

Just for Clubs is supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries through an Every Club grant.
