The City of Gosnells has been recognised for excellence in environment and sustainability, as well as for the delivery of the Mary Carroll Park project.

The City received the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (IPWEA) WA 2026 Excellence in Environment and Sustainability Award for the Sustainable Gosnells Project.

The City also received a highly commended award in the IPWEA Best Public Works Project category ($2 million to $5 million) in the Perth metropolitan area for the Mary Carroll Park Vision Plan Implementation Project.

Mayor Terresa Lynes said the City’s Sustainability Action Plan had driven a coordinated and integrated approach to responsible resource use across the organisation.

“This award reinforces the City’s commitment to the environment and empowers our teams to deliver projects that achieve meaningful sustainable results,” Mayor Lynes said.

“The Sustainability Action Plan provides a clear framework for monitoring progress and collecting data to support continuous improvement across biodiversity, energy, infrastructure, transport, waste and water.”

Since adopting the Sustainability Action Plan in 2023, the City has reduced corporate emissions by 37 per cent, despite population growth and increased demand on infrastructure, facilities and services.

Tree planting and solar generation have increased significantly over the past three years, while non-recyclable waste has been successfully diverted from landfill.

Mayor Lynes said the City was proud to receive a Highly Commended award for the $3.5million Mary Carroll Park upgrade.

“The upgrade has created opportunities for residents of all ages to connect with and learn about the unique environment of Mary Carroll Park and its Wetlands, while helping to protect it for future generations,” Mayor Lynes said.

The project features the City’s largest all-abilities playground, a pedestrian bridge across the wetlands, a Changing Places accessible public toilet facility and changerooms, picnic areas and a yarning circle.

The City will continue to identify and implement key actions to support a sustainable future and realise the community’s aspiration to prioritise the environment.
