Experience life growing up in the Gosnells district when you visit the When We Were Young exhibition at the City of Gosnells Museum at Wilkinson Homestead.

When We Were Young is a contemporary, nostalgic and playful exhibition that appeals to all ages. It will be on display from Sunday 9 February until November 2026.

The exhibition will showcase themed collections including Toys and Games, Bringing Up Baby, Childhood Illness and Resilience, Time to Party and Back to School.

“Some of us remember our childhood fondly, and this exhibition is all about unearthing those special memories in a visually captivating and engaging way,” Mayor Terresa Lynes said.

“It will offer a glimpse into the lives of children who grew up in the City of Gosnells over successive generations, in both the joyful and challenging times.

“We want visitors to reminisce and experience these eras, regardless of what generation they’re from.”

On display is an intriguing assortment of items from various eras that have been collected by the City over the years, from a cot used in the 1910s to more contemporary collections from the 1980s, which have not been displayed for some time.

The exhibition will also take visitors on a deep dive into the City’s photographic and oral history collections.

“The City recently acquired some additions to our collection which are featured in the exhibition, and we are very grateful to the donors,” Mayor Lynes said.

“We encourage people in Gosnells and beyond to come along and enjoy this incredibly nostalgic experience. You can even take your turn at playing some classic children’s games.”
