City of Gosnells residents are encouraged to have their say on proposed changes which could see some minor works exempt from Council approval.
On Tuesday 8 April, Council agreed to advertise a draft Local Planning Policy.
If the policy is supported, property owners will not need to apply for planning approval for a range of minor works on residential and rural-zoned properties.
The community is now invited to have their say, with the draft policy available on the City’s Your Say website and open for public comment until 5pm on Wednesday 14 May.
Mayor Terresa Lynes said the proposed changes reflect the City’s efforts to streamline what can be a lengthy process for residents who want to do minor work on their property.
“We want to ‘cut the bureaucratic red tape’, so to speak,” Mayor Lynes said.
“We know that the applications process can be quite overwhelming and drawn-out, so we’re trying to make life a bit easier for our residents by streamlining some of the City’s approvals processes, and this is a step towards achieving that.”
Property owners may still be required to obtain a building permit for works, even if the works do not require planning approval.
Mayor Lynes encouraged anyone with questions about planning or building approvals to contact the City on 9397 3000.
The proposed policy, including a full list of minor works under consideration for exemption, is available on the City’s Your Say website. Read the policy and provide feedback at yoursay.gosnells.wa.gov.au/publicnotice.
