The City of Gosnells has changed the way rates can be paid, as part of efforts to keep costs to ratepayers low.
Mayor Terresa Lynes said Australia Post has increased its charges to the City for processing rates paid at post offices by 60 per cent, to around $100,000 this year.
“Only 5,000 of our 52,000 ratepayers currently pay their rates at the post office, which works out to around $20 per transaction,” she said. “This service no longer offers value for money.”
“We know our ratepayers want to keep rates as low as possible, and we believe it’s unreasonable to pass this added cost on to all ratepayers.
“There are several other convenient ways to pay rates, including direct debit, online via the City’s website, in person at the Civic Centre, BPAY, phone payments, or FlexiPay, using the QR code on the rates notice.”
Rates notices will be sent via post or email in the coming weeks.
Support remains available for ratepayers facing financial difficulties paying their rates. Anyone needing assistance is encouraged to contact the City to arrange a payment plan.
