New floodlights have been switched on at Sutherlands Park, increasing the capacity for night games at the Huntingdale facility.
City of Gosnells Mayor Teressa Lynes said cricket, AFL, soccer, softball and tee-ball would now be fully floodlit on Reserves A and B.
“The upgraded and expanded floodlighting will provide increased opportunities for participation in both sporting and passive activities at Sutherlands Park,” Mayor Lynes said.
Mayor Lynes said 80 per cent of bookings for Reserve A and B were for junior sport.
“This project creates fantastic opportunities for our talented young people to participate and excel in their chosen sports,” she said.
Floodlighting for large ball sports has increased from 40 per cent to 100 per cent on Reserve A, while coverage on Reserve B has increased from 20 per cent to 100 per cent.
The LED floodlights project was recently completed by the City of Gosnells and jointly funded by the City and the State Government as part of the Community Sporting and Recreation Facility Fund program.
