Community Initiative Award

This award was introduced in 1999 to recognise:

  • Community involvement in crime prevention or community safety
  • Community involvement in reducing the fear of crime
  • Encouraging residents, community groups and government agencies to work together
  • Helping improve important aspects of our society (for example schools and sports grounds)
  • Meeting the needs of different age groups such as youth or seniors

2018 winner –Save the Children

Save the Children is acknowledged for their 'Strength2Strength' program. This 12-month strategic project based in the City of Gosnells is aimed at supporting boys, young men and community leaders from Afghan, Arabic-speaking and Burundian backgrounds to develop and strengthen positive attitudes towards manhood, masculinity and healthy relationships. The participants are engaged in fun activities in which they learn to be leaders for change on important social issues. The project was designed as a preventative program in response to Save the Children's work with women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds many on whom have sought support from Save the Children for issues related to domestic violence.
