Children and young adults' collections

Our collections offer a choice of books ranging from board books for babies, to easy readers (collections are graded to assist with selecting material suitable to different reading levels), and collections of novels for all ages right up to those specifically selected for young adults.

Free e-books are now available for children and young adults via the e-books page, and for younger children they can be downloaded from the StoryBox Library website. The libraries also have puzzles and games, puppets, comics, audio-books, and DVDs available for loan.

Backpacks

Special library backpacks are available to be borrowed from each library. The backpacks contain age appropriate materials for ages 0 – 2 years, and 3 – 5 years including books, games, puppets, puzzles, activity sheets and brochures and flyers.

Parenting collections

There is a dedicated parenting section in most Libraries for mums, dads and carers to browse. This is the place to find books on everything to do with being a parent – from pregnancy and childbirth, cooking for babies and children, fun things to do with your children, dealing with illness, and helping your child to study.

Early Readers

Board books are sturdy, hard wearing cardboard books suitable for young children and babies to handle. There are also early reader collections at each library where books have a star rating, making it easy for parents to find material appropriate for their child’s reading level.

Young Adult section

There is a collection of resources specifically aimed at the 12 – 18 years age group, including books, magazines and graphic novels (comics). Items in this collection are chosen to appeal to young adults with subject matter that focuses on issues of special interest for this age group.
