World Day of Remembrance

World Day of Remembrance is held to commemorate and recognise road traffic victims from around the world. This internationally recognised day is officially held on the third Sunday of November each year. World Day of Remembrance aims to:

  • Demonstrate the impacts of road death and remember those who have lost their lives, along with their families, friends and others who are affected

  • Provide an opportunity for reflection and support for families of road traffic accidents, and to acknowledge emergency services personnel and volunteers who have dealt with the traumatic aftermath of road death and injury.

World Day of Remembrance also serves as an education and awareness raising opportunity for young people, enabling discussion around the effects of road accidents on first responders and victims, and by highlighting the causes of vehicle incidents, such as inattention, alcohol and speed.
