Seniors Week in Gosnells

The City of Gosnells will be celebrating the importance of seniors in our community during Seniors Week in late October.

City of Gosnells Chief Executive Officer Ian Cowie said Seniors Week was an opportunity to highlight the role of seniors in our City.

“The City’s Seniors Week events will celebrate the involvement of local seniors in our community and give them a chance to come together for a range of fun and interesting activities,” Mr Cowie said.

On Monday 30 October, seniors can take a trip to Perth Zoo, where they will see crowd favourites like the big cats and elephants, as well as small Australian marsupials.

The cost of the return trip is $25 and participants can pack their own lunch for a picnic on the lawn or buy lunch at the café.

With Australians aged 55 and over accounting for 45 per cent of all scams reported to the Federal Government’s Scamwatch service, the City will also host a free Scam Alert Workshop.

A guest presenter will give advice and tips to help seniors minimise their risk of falling victim to this silent but often costly crime. The workshop will be at the Addie Mills Centre on Tuesday 31 October.

On Wednesday 1 November, the City will host a free barbecue in the grounds of the Addie Mills Centre, where seniors will have the opportunity to mingle, meet new people or enjoy a steak with old friends.

On Friday 3 November, the City will host a bush dance and dinner, for $25 per person. No previous dance experience is necessary as the event will be guided by a professional dance caller.

“With its unique location under the stars and along the banks of the Canning River at Wilkinson Homestead, it’s sure to be a night to remember,” Mr Cowie said.

A variety show will round out the City’s Seniors Week celebrations on Saturday 4 November, with New City Theatre amateur theatre group performing John Cleese’s famous Bookshop Sketch, followed by singing and a monologue.

Participants must be over 55 and reside in the City of Gosnells. Registration for each of these activities is essential and opens at 8am on Wednesday 18 October. To book a place, please contact 9391 6030.
