The City of Gosnells is currently running a waste and recycling awareness campaign to make sure your recycling efforts don’t go to waste.

Mayor Glenn Dewhurst said there was confusion among residents about what they could put in their yellow top bins.

“The City’s website has plenty of information about what you can and can’t recycle, as well as tips for reducing waste,” he said.

“It’s an issue we all need to get serious about – we simply cannot keep using resources or sending materials that can recycled or reused to landfill.”

Here are some easy rules to remember:

  • Rinse plastic bottles, containers, glass bottles, jars, aluminium and steel cans.
  • Remove the lids and only recycle items larger than the palm of your hand.
  • Milk or juice cartons and cardboard boxes should be flattened.
  • All items should be placed loose in the bin – not in plastic bags.
