Homegrown Bike Week event

Residents are being urged to light up their bikes or wheelchairs and dress up in their best glow-in-the-dark gear for the Glow Wheels Parade, a special night time event for Bike Week 2018.

Hosted by the City of Gosnells on Saturday 10 March at Mills Park, Beckenham, the event is held during Bike Week, which is an initiative of the Department of Transport and Westcycle WA to encourage more people in our community to ride bikes for transport or to improve health and wellbeing.

“The Glow Wheels Parade gives people of all ages and abilities a chance to have fun with cycling – there are prizes for the best bike decorations and outfits, giveaways and ‘light up’ fun for the whole family,” said the City’s Mayor Glenn Dewhurst.

“Kids, in particular, can really benefit from this event, as it involves a leisurely ride around Mills Park in a safe, fun environment and helps children establish a life-long love of bike riding.

“As a community, we can do more to choose cycling for fitness, fun or transport, ideally for those short trips to the shops or school.”

On the night, there’ll also be free bike engraving and bike education, as well as an outdoor glow disco and glow craft for children.

Participants will ride around the Mills Park path network. Each lap is about 2.2km and there’s no limit on how many laps you can ride.

Glow Wheels Parade is part of the City’s annual Homegrown Festival, which involves a month of exciting activities and events from Saturday 17 February to Sunday 18 March – be sure to check out the full program at www.gosnells.wa.gov.au/Homegrown.

This is a free event, however registrations are essential by calling 9397 3000.
