Community groups or individuals who work to make the City of Gosnells a safer and better place can nominate now for the City’s Safe City Awards.

Held every two years, the awards offer up to $1,000 in prize money for programs or initiatives that address crime prevention or community safety.

Mayor David Goode said there were three categories, including one for the general community, one for schools or students and another for young people or youth groups.

“We want to acknowledge those who’ve improved safety or the feeling of safety in their community, or those who have contributed to crime prevention through projects that have been undertaken over the past two years,” he said.

Categories for the 2020 Safe City Awards include:

  • Community Kids Award (primary school or individual class in the City) – 1st prize of $1,000 and plaque, 2nd prize $800 and 3rd prize $700.
  • Constable Peter Ball Memorial Youth Award (young person, youth group or not-for-profit organisation involved in youth activities in the City) – prize of $1,000 and plaque.
  • Community Initiative Award (individual or organisation in the City) – prize of $1,000 and plaque.
