The Shack

Young people in Gosnells have a fresh new space to hang out, following renovations at The Shack youth space.

Check out the space for yourself at a free re-opening event, featuring a barbecue, games, activities and skate jam, between 3pm and 7pm on Friday 16 February.

The former change rooms have been renovated to create a purpose-built youth centre with a workshop room, a large drop-in area with computers, a new kitchen and new toilets.

The renovations provide a more flexible space for programs and activities, such as a planned bike restoration project with social enterprise Dismantle, and cooking, nutrition and exercise programs to encourage healthy lifestyles.

“Where once we had lots of small and difficult-to-use spaces, we now have a light, bright, open area, which the City’s youth workers are planning to fill with artwork,” City of Gosnells Mayor Glenn Dewhurst said.

“The Shack plays an important role in the lives of young people living in the City of Gosnells. It provides a fun and safe place to meet up with friends, meet new people, talk to our Youth Services team and take part in a variety of innovative programs.”
