Visitors to The Shack youth space in Gosnells are being greeted with a fresh new mural, thanks to a collaboration between the City of Gosnells, artists from the Langford Aboriginal Association and local young people.

The new mural is the result of a popular cooking and culture course that was held at The Shack over five weeks during Term 2, involving more than 150 young people.

Mayor David Goode said the mural was the perfect addition to The Shack.

“This new mural will make the centre more welcoming for Aboriginal young people who visit The Shack, and will help build stronger relationships and connections with the Aboriginal community,” he said.

“This has been a fantastic opportunity for young people in Gosnells to learn more about Noongar culture. It has also brightened up a dark corner for all visitors to enjoy.”

The mural depicts The Shack as a meeting place surrounded by the six Noongar seasons to show that the youth centre is open all year round. A

second wall was decorated with participants’ handprints.
