Whatever it is that makes your mum special could feature in a live storytelling and music performance presented by the City of Gosnells at the Don Russell Performing Arts Centre (DRPAC) and the Wilkinson Homestead Museum, in March and April.

Mama Stitch, presented by Whiskey and Boots, is a unique ‘performance-installation’ event that includes gathering stories about local mums and presenting them on stage.

Members of the local community are invited to share stories about their mum during a series of interviews from Tuesday 2 to Thursday 18 March at DRPAC, and selected stories will be incorporated into intimate performances at the Museum over nine days in March and April.

Mayor David Goode said this was an interesting way for local people to share their history or uncover some fascinating community stories that may not have gained such a public audience.

“Stories about local mums will be collected through the interviews at DRPAC, and each story will be given an original musical pairing, inspired by the experiences of those mums,” he said.

“At our museum, the audience will hear the stories through a special verbatim performance, with presenters Georgia King and Mark Storen using headphones to deliver the text as they hear it – live and without embellishment. Original musical pieces will accompany each story.”

Audience members are also invited to contribute to the project by writing a ‘Dear Mum’ letter to take home or be displayed as part of this special event.

Mama Stitch will be held daily from 19 to 21 March, 26 to 28 March and 9 to 11 April at Wilkinson Homestead Museum on Homestead Road, Gosnells.

Doors open at 6pm for the serving of tea and toast, with the one-hour show starting at 6.30pm. Tickets are $22 standard, $16 concession/student and $10 children aged 2 to 16, with some tickets reserved for family members to book if their mum’s story is chosen.
