Christmas Lights competition

City of Gosnells residents are being urged to switch on the lights this festive season, as part of the City’s annual Christmas Lights competition.

With a range of categories to choose from and prizes to be won, there are plenty of reasons to enter.

City of Gosnells Mayor Glenn Dewhurst said the competition was a highlight of the festive season.

“Entering the Christmas Lights competition is a great way to get to know your neighbours and get into the festive spirit,” he said.

“The competition also encourages residents to walk around their neighbourhoods in the evenings, which improves community safety and gives people a greater sense of security.”

Residents can register before Sunday 3 December via the City’s website.

There are three categories to choose from:

  • Best decorated street – $1,000 prize and a commemorative street sign (minimum of five houses)
  • Best private residence - $500 and a plaque
  • Best first time entry - $100 voucher

Runners up in the private residence category will also be awarded $100 vouchers, and random entrant prize draws will give all entrants a chance to be a winner.

Judging will take place between 5 and 7 December. Entrants are asked to keep their lights on until 11pm on judging nights.

“We encourage residents to get out and about and view the participating houses,” Mayor Dewhurst said.

A list of locations is available on the City’s website. Viewers are reminded to be mindful of neighbours and pedestrians, particularly children, and to drive carefully.”

The Safe City Christmas Lights Competition is sponsored by Examiner Newspapers and Maddington Central.
